What a name change can tell you about customer service

© Copyright Frank D. Kanu 2000-2008

If you are reading my blog since a while you will have noticed that my last name changed.

I am now officially Frank D. Kanu.

Some of you might wonder about the name change. Of course there is more then just one reason. First—my beloved wife’s last name is Kanu. Yes, I am going to take her last name :) Secondly, I had a Feng Shui expert doing a research and she found out that the book will do better when using the last name Kanu. There you have it—another good reason! If you think it makes a great story for Oprah and other shows—I can still use some help to get there ;)

Little did I know about all the challenges most women go through when changing their name.

Most companies do not offer you the option to do it the easy way: Send/fax in the court document—be done. With some you have to go through the hurdles of explaining and arguing. Yes, arguing! One of the companies I called up for the last name change had a “lady” who got really upset that I changed my name.

Think they understand anything about customer service???

Do you make it easy for your customers to change their personal information?

I bet someone asked you too if the change is a legal change. Makes you wonder what they think…

Because I value your thoughtful opinions, I encourage you to add them.
