The Harzburger Model

© Copyright Frank D. Kanu 2000-2008

The Harzburger model is a management and leadership model developed from the AFW Wirtschaftsakademie Bad Harzburg GmbH.

In our days the academy represents this model only fundamentally. A flexible and modular leadership model is preferred over situational guidelines based on a rather closed model.

The Harzburger model integrates these concepts:

  • Management by delegation (which often is said to be the Harzburger model)
  • Management by Exception
  • Management by Objectives

Because of the strong emphasis of personal competence and responsibility the Harzburger model is seen as very close to Management by Projects.

    Dear Sir / Madam,

As I work for a large German retailer, a corporation that has embedded the Harzburger model, I would like to learn if there any management books available which descbribes this model in all its pro’s and con’s.

    Yours truthfully,
