Most big companies have benefits, including educational reimbursement.  Some of the companies have cut back, but others have not.  It might well be worth finding out whether the Fortune 50 company will pay for the person's first Bachelor's Degree.  By the time one factors in the 401k matching contributions, education and training, pension (if applicable), incentive compensation, and other factors, that $7/hour could actually be the equivalent of $14 to $20/hour.</description>
