Watch your ‘bleep’ language!

© Copyright Frank D. Kanu 2000-2008

More than once I have witnessed how managers verbally abuse their employees: “You stupid ‘bleep’ of a bleep! Bleep! Bleep! Even the dumbest bleep can do a bleep better bleep job then you.”

Mind you, even Jerry Springer and his audience would be ashamed to hear some of those remarks…

What amazes me the most is how many will witness an outburst like that and be silent. They duck like a beaten dog—hoping that it will go away and that they will not be next.

Multiple times I stepped in to calm a very unpleasant situation; went directly to top management to ask for a change. Sometimes it became clear to me to leave that “working” environment behind me.

Would you ask the manager to change her behavior?

Would you go directly to the CEO or President of the company to report?

Does it happen often where you work?

I would definitely ask the manager to change their behavior. First, no one is ever given the authority to belittle and rob someone else of their dignity. The misperception of managment roles is that they are given more authority…. wrong. Even though someone can argue that point, that fact is that you are given more responsibility.

Fortunately where I can work I don’t have to put up with that nonsense…. but when I did, I defended those that were victims of such abuse and never was I victim, or anyone else for that matter.

    Great topic!

Because I value your thoughtful opinions, I encourage you to add them.
