My computer just drove me nuts: Every 5 seconds there was a message:
“USB Device not recognized. ”
What worked for me was to create the following key in the registry
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\USB
Entry: DisableSelectiveSuspend
Type: DWORD
and set it to 1.

[Update 3/29/2007:
After a while that wasn’t good enough anymore either… Another tip I found was to turn off the computer for a few minutes. I had mine turned off for a few hours—no problems since
