Management by Exception

The employee basically acts like the manager—within well (pre-)defined limits. Usually, the help of the manager is only requested for exceptional situations.

The goal of management by exception is to move routine work from the manager to the employee—leaving the manager more time to manage. It requires a lot of trust.
