“It’s time to move away from proposals that don’t solve the problem”

You are right Mr. G. Richard Wagoner Jr.!
I know a great many people who are sick and tired of paying artificially high gasoline prices.
But wait a minute - this is not about ensuring that we can get cars that save us gasoline - this is about this:
Auto industry leaders and the United Auto Workers yesterday put up a united front in opposition to congressionally mandated improvements in vehicle fuel economy, potentially complicating the ambitions of Democrats seeking the most extensive changes in the rules since the 1970s.
. . .
“It’s time to move away from proposals that don’t solve the problem,” said G. Richard Wagoner Jr., chief executive of General Motors.
Union workers have mobilized in the past to help kill fuel-economy proposals.
I am sure a great many are very “thankful” for that.
Aren’t you?

With ever increasing gasoline prices—what other incentive does the automobile industry need?
Union workers have mobilized in the past to help kill fuel-economy proposals.
I am sure a great many are very “thankful” for that.
Aren’t you?
Are you surprised that there was big talk—but no proposed solution?
