“It looks recessionary to me,” said Scott Anderson, a senior economist at Wells Fargo & Co, speaking of the survey. “What started in the subprime mortgage market has spread across the economy. We’re seeing it show up in Main Street America.” external

At the same time the public thinks we are in a recession: Public views of the national economy are now more negative than at any point in nearly 15 years external

President Bush proposes a budget that increases military spending and … Well, at least it put another deficit on the next President. “After me the great flood”—as Germans would say…

Does anyone still believe the stimulus flop external—that doesn’t resonate with Wall Street external nor with two-third of Americans external—will come in time and actually move something?

But then again—would anybody expect leadership from the Commander Guy?
