IE 7 is now out.

Are you using IE? And if so—will you update?

I downloaded IE7 yesterday and have been taking it for a test-run ever since.

It looks good. Really, it does. The ClearType technology (enabled by default) makes text look a whole lot better, and, unlike the ClearType equivalent that comes with WinXP, it doesn’t make my eyes hurt when using it with a CRT monitor. Tabbed browsing is also a big plus - you can also open a new tab with just one click - and the modified, sleaker, modern-looking interface. Finally, just like Firefox, IE7 comes with built-in support for add-ons and user-made modifications.

So far, IE7 looks almost as fast as Firefox, although FF still seems to load back that little bit faster (that’s just my perception, can’t find any quantitative data to back it up). However, I’m more concerned about security than the marginal speed difference - although Microsoft claims to have fixed the gaping security holes that were the trademark of IE6, I’m still a little bit reluctant to trust them (come on, haven’t we all heard MS say that before?), so I will probably be using mainly Firefox for the time being just to give malware manufacturers some time to tinker with the new IE and see how much holes in its defences they can find.

I don’t see a reason to switch to IE 7 from Firefox, especially given that several security holes have already been found in IE 7. I’m sticking with Firefox for now, thanks.

Don’t use it at home and don’t use it at work unless I have to use the scheduling system which is used only on IE and don’t plan on updating either. I’ll still with my Opera.

Because I value your thoughtful opinions, I encourage you to add them.
