The power of these questions cannot be underestimated, especially if you want to lead and not manage."

how many?

How many interviews would you consider too many?

A friend of mine had his first interview and thought it went well. Got a phone call a few days later to meet with the team.

Now that’s a good sign, right? So he goes, thinks once again that he made a good impression and gets another phone call, some ten days later. Another interview to meet with the team. Still ok, since not all managers where there at the second interview.

But one starts to wonder… Once again he hit the traffic for the two hour one way commute, is rather happy with how things go - after all finally there was talk about the pay, bonus, etc…

Another weeks goes by. As you guessed - another call for an interview.

Would you go to interview number four?

My friend didn’t.

I had to do that years ago when I went to work for a company owned by EDS. I felt that I was enterviewed by everyone in the world. The use of multiple interviews is frequently done to see just how serious the applicant is about getting the job.

It all depends on how much I wanted/needed that job.

Definitely not, the same can be achieved in the first two interviews, and if a company needs that many interviews I can only imagine what their SOP’s and training manuals are like.

no i wouldn’t. wasting my time. Time is money. they’re just dicking him around.

i mean if they really wanted him they would have asked him by now (2nd interview)…

It would depend upon the position.

I would go to the 4th and 5th and 6th if it was a job he wanted. If not, I wouldn’t go to the 2nd. My friend was in an interview process for almost three months, but she got a fantastic position out of it.
