excuses

While in school we were always looking for an excuse why we did not make it in time. So one day my buddy and I came up with this one:
First my friend went into the class (late of course!) and says:
“Sorry that I am late Mr. X, but the street car had to stop because a horse lay on the rails.”
The students laughed, but the teacher exploded and told my buddy that that was just humbug…
After a few minutes, I entered the classroom:
“Sorry that I am late Mr. X, but my horse collapsed right on the rails of the street car…”
The only time ever that we saw our teacher speechless!
