Does LinkedIn still work?

A few days ago I received a message stating that LinkedIn has become a dinosaur. The author of the e-mail contacted his network for an event and the response rate was almost zero. For the record—I’ve heard that pretty often lately.
Today I read a recommendation:
XYZ is president of ABC.
Wow. Now that’s what I call really useless information! I can see that on the profile—why in God’s name would anyone write that as a recommendation?

What are your experiences with LinkedIn? Are you still using it?

I would think the site itself is of the most use to headhunters or recruiting agents as they seem to be the most agressive networking agents there, from my experience.
Most of my connections have come about from introductions that took place elsewhere and then finding the person at LinkedIn I invite them to connect with me there….essentially the way I connected to you, Frank
Only the best,
Yvette
