Crime does pay For Illegal Immigrants…?

© Copyright Frank D. Kanu 2000-2008

Let’s for one moment forget about all the issues that immediately spring to mind:
  • More illegal aliens will start entering the country (hey—wait a few weeks and then you are legally here—after all, how are they going to prove that you didn’t come a few moments ago?)
  • American citizens that feel betrayed—because they have lost their job to those illegal aliens who work for a buck an hour
  • The naturalized citizen who feel stupid for actually following the laws and immigrated the legal way
  • The signal send to the rest of the World: Enter the US illegally and you will be rewarded
  • The increasing discrimination and hate towards foreigners this will cause
  • …

and let’s concentrate on one big problem that many just love to forget:

The—up road living, foreign nationality—parents of US citizen.

Take Jane for example: Her parents came to the US in the 70’s to study; they got married, had two children, Jane being one of them. Jane and her brother are both US citizens. When Jane’s parents moved back to the country they came from Jane and her brother went with them. Years later Jane and her brother decided to move to the US.
So far, so good. But now it comes:

Strict new limits would apply to U.S. citizens seeking to bring foreign-born parents into the country.

Another sticking point came from the proposed replacement of an immigration system primarily designed to reunify families with a point system that would give new emphasis to skills and education. Automatic family-reunification visas would no longer apply to the adult siblings and children of U.S. citizens, and visas for parents would be capped. Instead, points would be granted to migrants with work experience in high-demand occupations and who have worked for a U.S.-based firm. Additional points would be awarded based on education levels, English proficiency and family ties.

WOW!

What does it mean for Jane?

Her parents are getting treated worst than an illegal immigrant.

The message the Government sends is clear:

We do not give a flying rats-ass about our citizens; illegal immigrants are important.

As a law obeying citizen this is a slap in your face, isn’t it? And what are you going to recommend to Jane: “Bring your parents over here illegally—that will make things easier…” ?

How can any politician in their right state of mind actually standing behind legislation like that? Even Mexicans are against the plans:
At the U.S. Consulate in Monterrey, which hands out more temporary visas than any other consulate or embassy in the world, Edmundo Bermudez, a 36-year-old from the northern city of Durango, said the plan rewards those who have already entered the United States illegally, while shutting out those who stayed home hoping to gain legal passage.

But then again - there are way less legal immigrants and they do not really have a lobby of 10,20,30,40?—God knows how many—million folks (or should I say illegals) protesting publically.

Wouldn’t you agree that this will go in history as the greatest amnesty of criminals ever?

I start to understand more and more why Lee Iacocca talks about clueless bozos.

I agree with your point of view that it very much looks like the proposed immigration legislation punishes the parents of those citizens for not being illegal immigrants.

At the very least this proposed legislation will create more problems for those that try to get their parents legally into the country.

You forgot to mention those unethical companies who employ illegal workers and are getting an amnesty too.

Because I value your thoughtful opinions, I encourage you to add them.
