Commitment

There is an initial hype when a new team is created - but then nothing. It is the same happens in every other team: Fast spin off, sometimes a take off, sometimes not. After a few days or weeks (depending if the team took off or not) the team will crash: No action for days, sometimes for weeks… In rare cases even months. And a great many will die a silent death. Even the incentive of getting paid for contribution does not work.
What we need are leaders. And those willing to support those who lead. Bad-mouthing, cherry picking, complaining, waiting is not following. It actually is worst then that: It slows down and kills in the long run.
Sure, if you have the power to remove people from a team, to discipline them you have the chance to lengthen the life of the team; to slow down the negativity. But can you avoid the burn-out?
Do not get me wrong: A great many teams deliver the requested result—but what about the team members? Do you care about them?

So where is their - and the others - commitment?
How many of us have the time and devotion to do so?
It starts with the missing communication. Team members are all busy with complaining, cherry picking, bad-mouthing! and waiting. Look around and listen carefully to the communication in the more vibrant teams: Cherry picking and bad-mouthing all over the place. What we need are leaders. And those willing to support those who lead. Bad-mouthing, cherry picking, complaining, waiting is not following. It actually is worst then that: It slows down and kills in the long run.

Do not get me wrong: A great many teams deliver the requested result—but what about the team members? Do you care about them?
How many team-leaders are aware—or care—about the motives of all team members?
Implement those motives to grow the team?
Is the growth of the team and the team members ever seen as an important goal of a team?
Can you increase the commitment? When was the last time you did?
