Cleanup? - Answer

We all know that modern (smarter?) linkers will not include procedures like this in the executable.

But why would any programmer in their right state of mind want to leave this in production code; besides decreasing the readability and blowing up the size of the code it sure doesn’t do anything, right?
Unfortunately I have come across code like this over and over again.

Haven’t you?
