"Frank's skill in asking the right questions is un-mistakable, and is at the core of his leadership philosophy.

The power of these questions cannot be underestimated, especially if you want to lead and not manage."

A very talented artist has started to create a series of graphics to promote my book Stop Telling… Start Leading! The Art of Managing People by Asking Questions.

You will find them in the blog here in the category Stop Telling… Start Leading! or you can also go to here to find them all.

How do you like them?

Who Handles Complaints In Your Company?

One of the Ritz-Carlton Basics states that a complaint has to be handled by the employee who received that complaint. That gives the employee immediate responsibility. It’s also a valuable step at a time when so many customers see the employee they deal with as “the company”. As responsibility increases, employees identify themselves more with the business—which means they’ll have more of an incentive to do their best.

Other companies have even the highest ranked manager answer the hotline in regular intervals.

And your company?

Why I Write

I have never tried to really classify why I write.

As first, second and third grader I was writing short stories - in the beginning some 4-6 pages long. Later 10-15 pages. Now the notebooks we used where small and the writing of a kid is big, but still… And then came the big silence. What happened?

School.

Yes, teachers telling me that my writing is useless (and even worst). Mind you, Goethe has been told the same - but now he is the most read author in German schools. As a matter of fact, history is full of examples of some of the greatest who miserably failed in school.

Some years ago I learned that writing articles is an absolute must to increase your online profile. Now it’s blogging, but that is a different story… So I started writing again and boy, was that hard! Because deep in my mind where the voices from all those teachers who failed being good at what they were paid for.

I don’t think it comes as a surprise, that my wife and I home school, right?

Within the past two years—especially after publishing my book—being read and getting comments have become an important part. But what amazes me most is how many people are asking me to co-author a book with them.

Manager or Leader?

In my book Stop Telling… Start Leading I write:
“There is a great difference between the ordinary manager and the leader. Managers usually live by the rules made by others. Leaders make the rules.

Leaders will build up employees and help them grow, giving them real opportunities to one day become leaders themselves. They understand that those following them are not after their job. Leaders motivate, and they listen, so they know what their employees want and the tools they need to get the job done. Leaders also know how to balance between giving employees help and allowing them to make their own decisions.”

How would you define the different roles of manager and leader?
