The power of these questions cannot be underestimated, especially if you want to lead and not manage."

How private is the internet?

There is no privacy on the internet.
Get over it!

I found private e-mails on the web because one part-time employees had his company mail forwarded to his web based university e-mail account. Which - of course - got spidered by search engines. And how many people forward e-mail without even asking the originator… Or those people including 500 e-mail address in the To: or CC: just to make sure that everyone of those can then start spamming you  !

Ever searched for your phone number using a search engine? Or credit card numbers? You will be surprised about the amount of information you can find!

So - what does it mean?
Well, be very careful about what you write and which webpages you go.
A simple block in from any to any and block out from any to any in your firewall rules will go a long way.

And in case of e-mail - just make sure that you do not send it out in the first place.

Today is the International Day of Peace.

“In 1981 the United Nations General Assembly passed resolution 36/67 declaring an International Day of Peace. In 2001, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a new resolution 55/282 declaring 21 September of each year as the International Day of Peace.”

What are you going to do?

Stupidity or…?

I am sure you have all heard about the blogs about CBS and Bush’s Military Record. And you know that many, if not even the majority of the blogs has their menu on the right site.

A forum I used to value (I know, I know) and read (until today) states this:
1. Menu should always be either on top or on the left side. Never on the right or only at the bottom.

then
Rules are made to be broken.

And as answer:
As far as web-design goes, rules are meant to be broken only if you want to look like you don’t know what you’re doing.
This forum was created for people who are seeking for PROFESSIONAL WEB-DESIGN advice. And there are some standards and rules that shouldn’t be broken if you want to create the right impression.

Wow!

So, all those people having the menu on the right are stupid and give the wrong impression. And all those people forcing the users to scroll down are stupid.

Gee, what do those self declared experts go on my nerves!

Dear “PROFESSIONAL WEB-DESIGNERS” lighten up!

Ever looked at pages which are nothing else then a sales letter? The majority of them has the menu at the bottom. They are stupid, right? So stupid that they sell! Go figure!

There are aesthetic reasons why a menu is at the place it is at. Historical reasons, language reasons (we are not all writing from the left to the right, right?) and many other reasons. Just going ahead and bluntly declare that as giving the “wrong impression” can give me only one impression: Insane!

Do you also try to tell us that tables are a good thing? Where and when do you end?

And since when are rules the law?

Silence

I think that the best way remembering what has happened in our world and to our world was to be silent.

My thoughts are with the victims of all wars and terror attacks.

Penn Ultimate

The Washington Post reports:
Up until just a few years ago, Washington’s psychological map was reversed: “Outer” was in, the inner city was out. Developers talked up Georgetown and Old Town, Metro towns and “new towns”; but downtown D.C. was Deserted City, especially after dark. Washington’s poles of power may have been the White House and the Capitol, but the axis of influence—Pennsylvania Avenue, running wide between them—became a ghost town once the law and lobby firms locked up. The area just north of the avenue between about Fifth and 12th streets NW hadn’t had a significant residential population for more than a century. Chinatown, once a popular dining area, was deteriorating; and the handful of nightclubs and performance venues that were lured to the area in the ’80s by large warehouse spaces and low rents had increasing difficulty convincing patrons that the streets were safe. Even by day the aura of discouragement became so palpable (and the suburban malls so spiffy by comparison) that such establishment department stores as Garfinkel’s, Woodward & Lothrop and Lansburgh’s gradually shuttered their doors.
