Interview by a Former Employee?

© Copyright Frank D. Kanu 2000-2009

A friend of mine who is looking for a new position was invited to do an interview. The company stated that he was the only candidate who really fits their requirements. My friend was willing to do the interview until he found out, that the interview would be done by a former employee. Yes, a former employee!

Whose interest will the former employee have in mind: Hers or the company’s?

Then—the company does not have an employee with the needed technical skills to perform the interview.

How will the new employee be lead? Does she have to explain and justify every single technical decision?

Would it make a difference if the interview would be done by a retired employee?

    Good credit = good employee?

    © Copyright Frank D. Kanu 2000-2009

Qualification: Must have a good credit history
LaToya Horton was temping at a management consulting firm in Boston last January when it offered her a full-time job as a clerk. Then, the firm said it needed to check her credit.
Horton, 30, of Dorchester, didn’t get the job after her credit report showed $18,000 in deferred student loans. “My credit wasn’t perfect, but I never thought my student loans would go against me,” said Horton.

Without the education the person does not get the job and then with the education…

We all know how expensive education has become and how it influences the credit score. Plus the credit scoring system was not setup in a way that helps an employer to make a decision about an employee.

Do you think your employer should be allowed to be that much in your personal business?

    job security?

    © Copyright Frank D. Kanu 2000-2009

Did you know that already 1/4 of companies fired employees because of misuse of e-mail? And some 2% because of misuse of instant messaging? And bloggers have been laid off too… How secure are you after the latest gossip you have bcc’d?

It is all related to the fact that more and more companies see themselves in court because the messages their employees sent out. Or their blogging activities. We all know that blogs have become a very powerful—positive and/or negative—marketing tool.

A great many employees are not even aware of the rules companies have in place.

    Are your employees?

Is your company screening for content employees broadcast?

What Are Your Tests Telling You?

    © Copyright Frank D. Kanu 2000-2009

We know the old saying there are lies, bigger lies and statistics, but what are your tests telling you?

We all know that more and more employers use tests to find out if a person fits into their company. But how real are those tests? How many of them take the more and more global world into consideration?

“To some Europeans, people who don’t make direct eye contact are thought to be ignoring them. West Africans, on the other hand, consider direct eye contact a sign of aggression. It’s easy to see how different views of cultural cues can be confusing and inadvertently insulting.”
    Stop Telling… Start Leading! p. 129

    Exactly!

Just today I read the evaluation of the results of a test. It started with: “The results are non-conclusive” and then followed by a three page conclusion. Hmm, and it didn’t make the author wonder?

For me the evaluation should have stopped right after “The results are non-conclusive“!

How much do you consider diversity, cultural, social and ethical differences?

In tests, business and daily life?
