Bilingual Translator Needed

© Copyright Frank D. Kanu 2000-2009

Doh!

Shouldn’t that be one the requirements to speak at least two languages?

Job postings are not only a source of fun for the reader but also give a good picture of education and economics… Lately it seems that more and more of those job descriptions are written by people who really need to press their behinds a bit longer on a school bench…

Maybe, just maybe, I got it wrong: Not every language counts when one speaks English… For example if one speaks English and Spanish that counts as one language: Spanglish. English and German makes bilingual. English and ancient Egyptian on the other hand must count for at least three or four languages; after all it is way harder to learn and is also more troublesome to find someone to speak with. I have heard that mummies do not really communicate that well…

Coincidently this comes at the same time I am reading more and more job descriptions which seem nothing more than copy and paste from TWO positions; and—of course—the job pays only for one position…

How many languages do you speak?

Should rambling count as one?

Wuppertal and The Schwebebahn (Suspension Line)

© Copyright Frank D. Kanu 2000-2009

I was born in Wuppertal Elberfeld. (Only Elberfelder are real Wuppertaler - but you need to have a deep connection with Wuppertal to understand…)

Wuppertal is the only city in the world with a suspension line. It’s the safest public transportation system in the world and was built around 1900.

The train station frequented most is Döppersberg:

What is special about the city you were born in?

Every Lender - Dead or Alive - Will Truly Worship You!

© Copyright Frank D. Kanu 2000-2009

A utility bill I received yesterday comes with a whopping 53.7% late fee—in case you pay late!

I really must be in the wrong business!

And I am sure that all banks, mortgage banks, CC companies—gee EVERY lender in the world would love to find out how to do that in a legal way! Just imagine—your CC statement is—let’s say $500.00; add the 53.7% late fee and let’s forget about those silly $39.00!

Of course—the utility company has the advantage of a monopoly.

Think that helped them?

What do you think?

Is slavery back?

© Copyright Frank D. Kanu 2000-2009

A recent job posting on an U.S. based board asked for a local well experienced Java programmer.

Compensation for one week of work: $100.00

Compensation for a month: $400.00

Being your slave: Priceless.

Schwester, Skalpell bitte…

© Copyright Frank D. Kanu 2000-2009

Excuse me? Exactly!

Some days ago I read that health care providers are now starting to fly patients to lower income countries to “save” on the costs for expensive surgeries. Do you think they will fly you first class?

How will you feel when the surgery causes complications and you are in a foreign country surrounded by nurses and doctors whose language you do not speak. Without your family and loved ones?

This comes at the same time health care providers talking about increasing the rates. Do you feel like they are charging too much for what they offer?

Has health insurance truly become a benefit the less fortunate cannot afford anymore?

Kanu or Schmidt?

© Copyright Frank D. Kanu 2000-2009

Some wonder about the different last names—Schmidt and Kanu. I was born as Schmidt, but changed my last name to the last name of my beloved wife Ada.

Of course there is more than just this one reason: I had a Feng Shui expert doing a research and she found out that except for medical books my books will do better when using the last name Kanu. There you have it—another good reason!

And How Are You Any Better?

© Copyright Frank D. Kanu 2000-2009

We all have seen negative political ads; you know, the ones starting with: Candidate A is running a false and negative campaign. And then it goes on with talking about how the other candidate is doing the wrong things, asks for the wrong things and in general has a disturbed relationship with the truth.

My question to candidate B: And how are you any better than candidate A?

Isn’t your campaign negative too?

Now lets’ take a look at the workplace: Way too often we see that people who should work together and with each other are busy with false and negative campaigns.

Isn’t it time for a change - to be positive and supportive?

When was the last time you have given your co-worker an honest compliment? Or received one?
