Stop Telling… Start Leading!
The Art of Managing People by Asking Questions
is the result of a focus study with managers to find the best title possible for my book.

Still, comments about the title range from horrible to fantastic.

What do you think?

And what do you do when you like or dislike the title of a book?

I like the “Start Leading” part… “Stop Telling” doesn’t sound like a fit. I’d suggest “Stop managing…” but then it’d be repeating the word that’s in the sub-title. Maybe… “Stop Bossing… ” but then it may be taken to mean don’t be a boss. Ah, this will take some thinking.

Somehow it seems disjointed, almost like an argument; “Yes I did, No You Didn’t.”

There does not seem to be a basis for decision.

My idea is no better, but may present another viewpoint for finding a solution.

    Don’t Just Manage - Lead!

The title is definitive and obvious to other leaders. Those that appreciate the title, like myself understand the difference between management and leadership. Manages tell people what to do. Leaders show people what to do by example. Of course I’m saying this without having read your book, Frank, but I surely intend to make it my next read. I’ll even do a book review in my next newsletter, once i complete it.

For those that understand the difference between leadership and managment of people , the subject of the book is understood before reading.

    Dear John,

commenting like that on a book you have not read says a lot.

Maybe you should have taken the time to either read the comments above - or, even so apparently unthinkable - to read the book.

Don’t get me wrong - I do not mind people disliking my book, but being impolite and unprofessional - something one would not expect from a CIO - a person who claims to be a manger/leader.

    Best regards,
    Frank

    For John C,

From your reponse I can tell you are probably a real joy to work for.

I, like you, will make an uninformed assumption and go a little further to say that most people with your attitude and style of authoritarian leadership are managers and not leaders.

I can also see what type of of manager you are, since you are making a comment about a book you have never read in the manner in which you have.

Bottom line is, with your attitude you are not a leader, but a manager of people and things. So please do not distort the word leadership by applying it to the way you manage.

    Hey
I missed your comments but by this time you’ve realised your book is worthless. It might be good for starting a fire

    Just one question John:

    Did you read the book?

    John,

I just pointed out to Frank that your first comment was almost two years ago.
Makes me wonder what you do for a living…

I grew up with John. He is a pushy boor. You are a little misled, Joseph; no one works for John. He’s the loser reading self help books. I can’t comment on the book myself, it’s not my style. Nevertheless, never having written a book, the undertaking itself is commendable.
