Balanced Scorecards

The Balanced Scorecard goes back to the study “Measuring Performance in the Organization of the Future” (1990 by the Nolan Norton Institute on behalf of KPMG). In the course of this study the scoring systems of innovative enterprises from different industries were examined to develop a homogenous system.
One of the substantial realizations was that financial characteristics alone do not create a sufficient basis for an evaluation. According to Kaplan and Norton the following characteristics are necessary to create a “balanced” view:
