Are You A Pet Owner?

© Copyright Frank D. Kanu 2000-2009

Last night the news reported about the never ending pet food recalls. One of the comments was: “Don’t give your pet junk food—that’s what we call human food given to pets.”

I have to wonder what the person sees as the option: Feeding food that might kill your pet—or feeding “junk food”—which might kill your pet. But one thing is for sure: Not feeding will kill your pet. Personally I am rather offended by that comment anyway—after all—how can fruits and vegetables be junk food?

But what really scares me is that this pet food could come on the market.

Aren’t there any quality controls?

Didn’t anybody learn from the recent human killer foods?

There are many varying qualities of pet foods available. Many of the cheap end foods like those in the recall use meat by-products and other not for human consumption parts of the meat source. They are also very heavily ladden with grain products as fillers.

I have had several dogs for many years and I will never feed my dogs anything that is not human grade and I will only feed them foods that contain vegetables and fruits for the carbohydrates.

While what happened to some pets who consumed these cheap foods is unfortunate, you get what you pay for.

Because I value your thoughtful opinions, I encourage you to add them.
