Are online communities a failure?

Being on the internet almost 20 years now I have seen the raise of a lot of communities. And their fall.
Have seen people with their thinking: “You can’t join, you are not good enough”. Which never was a good thing, because one way or another you got in anyway…
And then when it got crowded the quality went down the same way quantity went up. I think it’s an internet phenomenon.
But the worst thing of all is the censorship based upon misunderstandings. People have been kicked out because they said something someone else didn’t like. And that someone else then started to intrigue around… I have seen both sides of the conversations and none of them were pretty. People really love to overlook that being from a different culture, religion, continent makes a huge difference. And not being a native speaker in every language does no9t make things easier either. Diversity is key!
Godwin’s Law (also Godwin’s Rule of Nazi Analogies) is an adage in Internet culture that was originated by Mike Godwin in 1990 comes to mind. The law states that:
Way too often content has been deleted after people have been removed from groups. That’s censorship at it’s worst! Just imagine all your grades at school would have been changed to failure after that one test you flunked…
Open up folks!
Not everyone has the same opinion, not everyone uses words the same way. And we sure do not talk all the same way!

As an online discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving Nazis or Hitler approaches one.
