We don’t need no $500 million

Incredibly, 700,000 children in Florida qualify for KidCare and are not enrolled.
“There are a lot of children, particularly in the Tampa Bay Area,” explained child advocate Chris Card. “That qualify and could use this health care coverage, and we’ve just put up too many barriers.”
Those barriers include budget politics and loads of paperwork that are unnecessary red tape according to Congresswoman Kathy Castor, who is pushing a bill to eliminate it.
Last night the local news (Fox13 Tampa Bay) broadcasted about the kid care program in Florida. There was a comment that some $500 million are not spent—because it apparently is a Sisyphus like task to get a child enrolled into KidCare.
I wonder how many of the bureaucrats who came up with ever new hurdles are now tapping on each other shoulders and say: “Good job Joe!” (My apologies to all named Joe)
Doesn’t this give a totally new meaning to “No child left behind?”
Trying to save money is one thing, but to have children suffer is a totally different story. And the real bill comes in a few years down the road - when those children have to deal with the long term effects of not being able to deal with health issues in due time.
700,000 children! And no loud outcry from our politicians. Except - of course - that there is more money needed for an accomplished mission.
I am ashamed.
