President Bush apologizes

© Copyright Frank D. Kanu 2000-2008

It’s something like a month ago that the public learned about the challenges wounded soldiers and their families face.

The stories they told him about their frustrations at Walter Reed, he said later, left him troubled and reinforced his commitment to resolve their grievances.

“I was disturbed by their accounts of what went wrong,” he said in a speech to hospital staff members after the tour. “It is not right to have someone volunteer to wear our uniform and not get the best possible care. I apologize for what they went through, and we’re going to fix the problem.”
. . .
Some derided Bush’s tour as a political stunt, while others expressed appreciation for the symbolism as long as it will be accompanied by real change at Walter Reed and throughout the system of medical care for veterans.

Appreciation for what?

Isn’t it a sign of a leader to not wait a darn month to apologize?

Sure, the Army secretary and two Generals got dismissed. But that didn’t happen just yesterday, right?

Then why did it take so long to apologize?

That is what makes the difference between one of the worst performing politicians who happens to be President and the real leaders like President Abraham Lincoln, President George Washington or President Franklin D. Roosevelt.

What do you think?

Turnitin and Copyright

© Copyright Frank D. Kanu 2000-2008

The lawsuit, filed this week in U.S. District Court in Alexandria, seeks $900,000 in damages from the for-profit service known as Turnitin. The service seeks to root out cheaters by comparing student term papers and essays against a database of more than 22 million student papers as well as online sources and electronic archives of journals. In the process, the student papers are added to the database.

Do you think you can plagiarize your OWN work?

Attorneys for the company and various universities and public school systems, including Fairfax , have concluded that the service doesn’t violate student rights.
…
One of the McLean High plaintiffs wrote a paper titled “What Lies Beyond the Horizon.” It was submitted to Turnitin with instructions that it not be archived, but it was, the lawsuit says.

Do you believe their claim not to violate copyrights—when they can’t even honor such an easy request?

Is the house bubble bursting?

© Copyright Frank D. Kanu 2000-2008

This month 19,000 Floridians lost their houses; the highest in the country.

While some mortgage companies made it way to easy for people to get a mortgage—there are a great many that do not understand
  1. How to manage their finances
  2. What the fine print of the mortgage contract really means

Many trapped themselves with variable interest rates…

But there is a second problem arising: The demand for rental property is increasing and so are the prices for rental property—because there isn’t enough… And those increased prices lead to many not being able to afford renting anymore—like many can’t afford their mortgages anymore. Will the bursting housing bubble lead to a burst in numbers of homeless people? Florida like many other states has an increasing problem with homeless. And action like the tent cutting in St. Petersburg have proven that some politicians are headless and idiotic in their actions.

Do you teach your children how to manage their finances?

Can the US economics handle a bursting house bubble?

Can the global economics?

Have you ever googled yourself?

© Copyright Frank D. Kanu 2000-2008

According to the research, released Wednesday, one in five employers finds information about candidates on the Internet, and 59 percent of those said it influences recruitment decisions.

A fourth of human resources decision makers said they had rejected candidates based on personal information found online. Most people, however, remain unaware of the effect their Net reputation can have on their job prospects.

Would you what you find on the web let influence your decision?

Do you think it’s an invasion of the potential employees privacy?
