Is this the end of outsourcing?

© Copyright Frank D. Kanu 2000-2008

Friends have told me that there are more and more instances where a potential “employer” ask the candidates to take a test. (Most of these programming job offerings are done via newsgroups and the like.)

Anyway, these tests are nothing else then a task the “employer” is trying to finish. There is no job at all! The whole purpose is to get the work done—for free.

The end of outsourcing—at least for programming services?

7 years of bad luck?

© Copyright Frank D. Kanu 2000-2008

My son just broke a mirror. Some think that it brings seven years of bad luck.

What do you think??

My daughter was born on Friday the 13th—only good luck there ;)

Forced silence

© Copyright Frank D. Kanu 2000-2008

A few years ago one of my hard drives crashed—it just stopped spinning. I learnt from that experience, bought a big enough drive to do a daily backup. And have done this ever since—added a hard drive to the computer—for the backup. And felt save.

Until last week—when my machine miserably crashed. Both hard drives lived a short life and have caused me some headaches.

I’ve added a backup server to my network. It’s not only backing up the data but will also burn the backups weekly on DVD. At least I am not loosing more then a week. Except of course the hard drives and the DVD fail…

How do you back your data up?

And how often do you check if you backup can be restored?
